Subject: «Pads on the Bear’s paws» (One of the versions).
First we make templates for the paws sole, considering the allowance (5 mm), then we outline the pads we need on the pattern and neatly cut the stencil inside it.
Attention! The sole of Bear’s paw will get three-dimensional. To turn the paw out from the inner to the outer side without damaging it, the sole volume is to be considered with the pads ready, and the narrowest part of the paw is to be made proper size.
The following fabrics can be used for the sole decoration:
а) outer fabric – for outer side of the sole (leaky artificial suede will do),
б) inner fabric – for inner side of the sole (more dense artificial sized warp suede – ex., for soft furniture upholstery – will be quite good).
So, we cut out the soles from decorative fabric.
Next step – We transfer the stencil drawing from the template to inner and outer soles.

Photo 1. Template – sole stencil. Outer (outside) and inner (back) side of the sole.

Photo 2. We sew the cut out parts of the sole together by the circle using the tacking seam.
Photo 3. We stitch the pads contours with the main hand or mechanical seam.
Photo 4. We make cross cuts with the manicure scissors in the middle of each pad from the inner side, not touching the outer side of the sole
Photo 5. We evenly stuff each pad with synthetic fluff using a small wooden stick (sharpened match will be OK).
Photo 6. After stuffing each cut on the pads is to be darned.
Photo 7. For dying get ready a glass of water, brush, textile dyes and glassware for mixing dyes and water.
We can mix two solid colors e.g. black and terracotta-brown. Deep dark-brown color will be formed at the result. Get ready the dyes watered in different extent: light-brown (more water), middle-brown (less water), dark-brown (1-3 drops of water).
Photo 8. We dye the outer side of the sole. 1st stage of dying: we tint the sole base with light-brown colour, not touching the pads. The brush is to be dipped into the dye, but before spreading to the fabric the excessive moisture is to be “discharged” to the napkin. Before dye spread on the fabric the brush is to be slightly damp, but not wet.
Photo 9. 2-nd stage of dying: middle-brown color is to be applied on the base around the pads with the brush, shading the dye sideways from the pads edges.
Photo 10. 3-rd stage of dying: dark-brown color - to be applied to the sole base, covering the seams and giving more depth. Afterwards the pads edges are to be toned with light-brown color by the circle. In this case the dye is to be in a very small quantity, as the pads are the most bulging part of the sole, and they are to remain the lightest in terms of color.
So, we enhanced the base depth with the dye, thereby making the pads look more bulging.
Photo 11. Final result. The soles are to be sewed to the paws in a usual way once the former are ready.
The dye dries up completely on the fabric in a mere 2 days in the open air. Thus, we can pass to the next stage of our work on the teddy straight once the dyeing and drying of the sole is complete.
